Includes all events in Cobourg – some occur each year, others are just for 2017, all have a 2017 celebration theme The organization of the committee managing these events was explained in this post.

Calendar for 2017

Date Event Location
Oct 30 Cobourg Day – 1867 Municipal Council re-enactment beginning at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers. Council and staff will be dressed in period costume and will review agenda items that reflected the main type of business in 1867 such as the funding and construction of the Cobourg, Peterborough and Marmora Railway, construction of a Battalion Drill Shed for accommodation of Her Majesty’s troops, construction of a Children’s Aid Refuge Home, the funding to build a new Central School and much more. The model railway will also be on display in the Council Chambers for reference. A delegation will also take place from a news reporter Henry Houghes from Cobourg World played by Robert Washburn. Other Projects

Throughout the year

  • The 150 Challenge – Cobourg Public Library – challenge the community to read as many Canadian books as they can over 150 days.  The list of books will be displayed at the CPL.  Prizes.
  • History of Sports in Cobourg – over 27 sports in Cobourg are being researched and written.  Watch for displays at the CCC etc.
  • Celebrating 150 years: Discovering Cobourg’s Heritage – presented by the ACO Cobourg & East Northumberland. (Summer 2017) Signs will be placed outside all building and houses that were standing in 1867 within the Town limits.  Photographs and historical information will be linked with each building on a map of Cobourg (available online) – potential walking and bike tours of these buildings
  • ARTSTOWN Cobourg – Downtown Cobourg – empty Storefronts will become pop-up galleries
  • Paint the Town Red - Red and White Flowers, Canadian Flags etc.
  • Canada 150 Cobourg 2017 CD – Music from the ages with the Concert Band of Cobourg – will be debuted on Canada Day
  • Book Signing – Be a part of the 2017 Guest Book – Victoria Hall lobby
  • Communities in Bloom - the judges have been - See results here..
