Almost a year ago, in November 2012, Ken Prue opened his Café in the Mall, immediately below his successful Cinema.  But it hasn't worked out and CinemaCafé has now closed.  With the closing of Zellers, traffic in the mall would have been down although Zellers did have their own low end restaurant so the closing of Zellers may have had a neutral impact.  It's a shame that it had to close since it had some good gâteaux and great coffee for sale.  He tried to expand into catering but there are already too many caterers in Cobourg for that to be viable.  Ken's a smart businessman with exceptional marketing skills - if he can't make it work, no one can.

cinemacafeLet's hope the Mall itself is not in danger - if Metro closed it would be dead except for the Cinema which seems to be doing well.  Although there was talk of some Metros closing, ours does not seem to be one of them.  Let's hope the Mall prospers with new tenants in the old Zeller's space.

With CinemaCafé  closed and with no food court, there's room for perhaps a Second Cup franchise or similar.  Obviously more than that has a problem and even that would be debatable.
