The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board has approved the closing of CDCI West and the consolidation of CDCI East and West into a revitalized new school at the CDCI East location.  The process will take two years and will have a new name to be chosen by an ad hoc committee set up for that purpose.  The decision is in line with recommendations made by the committee that looked into the issue and which had made a report per below.

In addition to implementing the committee recommendations, the board approved:

  • approximately $12.39M in expenditure to implement the recommendations

The recommendations by the committee for the new campus were:

  • update science labs
  • update library
  • upgrade track and field
  • upgrade auto and technology rooms
  • relocate MAC lab
  • upgrade elevator
  • room accessibility
  • art room, create 2 rooms
  • former maintenance shop, return to classrooms
  • upgrade bussing
  • new foyer (add to cafeteria, and office space)
  • multi-purpose learning centre

Costs would be covered by:

  • savings from the closure of Cobourg District Collegiate Institute West
  • Ministry funding to support program enhancements resulting from school
  • consolidation as part of capital priorities
  • Board funds set aside for capital priorities including disposition of three properties in Cobourg
