St. Peter’s was at capacity today with the Town of Cobourg turning out in force to remember and honour Tom MacMillan. As our former Town crier, the Drum major of the Concert band of Cobourg, an occasional Santa Claus and OPP Officer he was known by many as a generous man and loved by all who knew him. His three daughters were there – including one who flew in from London, England.

The Concert band of Cobourg were there and played many of Tom’s favourites including Jingle Bells in celebration of Tom’s role as Santa Claus. A Piper played Highland Cathedral with the band joining in part way through. Very stirring.

Several Town criers from other towns were there in full regalia to pay their respects – a surprise that touched many people.

Cogeco TV were there to record the event and will playback the full service tonight (Aug 14) at 7:00pm on Cable 10. It will be replayed at other times as well.

Tom was married to his wife Bert for 51 years and they were devoted to each other and their children. The photo at right was taken last year at a 50th Wedding anniversary celebration.

As well as being a well known person in the town, he was also a friend to many – including me. He will be missed.
